About Us
St. Monica Catholic Church is a parish in the Catholic Diocese of Ngong, located in Kitengela, Kajiado County—approximately 30km from Nairobi. Elevated to parish status in 1998, it was entrusted to the Society of African Missions (SMA) under the leadership of the late Fr. John Hannon, SMA. Before this, it served as an outstation and later a sub-parish of St. Mary’s Parish, Rongai, under the pastoral care of the Comboni Missionaries.
Driven by the rapid growth of Kitengela, the parish has expanded significantly, nurturing several outstations into independent parishes: Sts. John and Sylvia, Our Lady of Divine Mercy Shrine (Acacia), and St. Josephine Bakhita. Today, the parish is defined by its vibrant communal worship and dedicated outreach programs. It has over 60 Small Christian Communities (SCCs) and Church groups combined.
Currently, St. Monica parish is led by Fr. Godfrey Kanenje, SMA—who also serves as the Vice Superior of the SMA Kenya Province—assisted by Fr. David Obara, SMA. The parish also hosts St. Monica Academy & Junior School, a leading school in Ngong Diocese and Kajiado County. Directed by Fr. Kanenje, the academy is renowned for providing quality, holistic, and affordable education.
